Canadian Opera Company Wins Best Arts Website in 2012 Internet Advertising Competition

(Toronto, ON) March 26, 2012 – The Web Marketing Association today announced that Delvinia, a digital strategy and customer experience design consultancy, is being honoured for its work with the Canadian Opera Company (COC). The Toronto firm is responsible for the design of the COC’s website, which won Best Arts Website in the 2012 Internet Advertising Competition (IAC) Awards.

The website, at coc.ca, which Delvinia originally redesigned in January 2009, underwent a creative refresh in March 2011 and has since won six international awards, including an Interactive Media Award, a Stevie Award, a WebAward, a W³ Award and a Davey Award.

“This award not only recognizes our work in enhancing the digital experience for the COC, but just as importantly, it provides the COC with international recognition within the arts community,” said Delvinia CEO Adam Froman. “Since we embarked on our journey with the COC in 2008, it has been our goal to create a digital customer experience that reflects the level of quality of the company’s productions and of its opera house, the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. This award, along with the other five we have won, demonstrates that the COC has a digital customer experience that is at the same level as everything else they do.”

The website was refreshed to include a new homepage with a prominent link to purchase tickets and online subscriptions as well as tabs directing visitors to information about upcoming operas, the blog, and what’s happening behind the scenes. The site also integrates more content-rich imagery, designed to match the confidence of the new brand while illustrating the essence of operatic theatre.

The IAC Awards are produced by the Web Marketing Association to honor excellence in online advertising, recognize the individuals and organizations responsible, and showcase the best in award winning Internet advertising. The 10th annual awards are handed out in 96 industries and nine online formats including, online ad, video, mobile, newsletter, email and social media.

“The COC is truly a model for any organization that wants to embrace digital technologies to achieve its business objectives,” said Froman. “While the architecture of the website remained intact from an experience perspective, the creative refresh allowed the COC to employ data-informed design enhancements, demonstrating that its website is an evolving digital experience that continues to change and evolve along with the changing habits and behaviours of its audience.”
