Dutch site Sellaband brings new artists and music fans together. Bands set up profiles and upload music to attract ‘believers’. Any bands that can attract 5000 believers get their own producer, studio and A&R to record and promote an album. Believers get a share of advertising from their bands download page and revenue from sales of the CD.

UK site VIPbandmanager is looking to signup 50,000 band members to help manage a new musical act to stardom. For a one time fee of 20 British pounds, managers get to vote on everything from the band’s name, their image, picking tracks, promotions, and organizing tours. Management perks include entrance to parties and backstage access.

Cellphones as wallets CBC recently reported that, Royal Bank of Canada and Visa Canada announced that they will be testing technology that would allow people to use their cellphones as electronic wallets. The bank and credit card company said they are launching an Ontario-based pilot project, to be conducted in three stages in 2008, that would allow consumers to simply swipe their phone in front of a scanner to make simple purchases. Social lending comes to Canada
Currently in a test phase and set to launch in late 2007, Toronto-based CommunityLend.com wants to change the way that lending works in Canada. Social lending companies make money by charging borrowers a fee for getting a loan, and lenders a fee to service the loan. Its already big in Europe and the U.S., through Zopa.com and Prosper.com.
