To mark the start of the new school year, we thought we’d round up some old school pictures (most of which are somewhat awkward and a tad embarrassing) from the staff at Delvinia and AskingCanadians.
From the missing teeth to the dated haircuts and questionable fashions we think there are some pretty classic shots here. Randy Matheson could have opened cans with his front teeth, Adam Froman may or may not have been wearing a wig for his school photo, and Roy Gonsalves’ bow tie is practically the size of his head.
We hope these photos will make you smile and might even prompt you to dig out your own old school pictures!
Today is the first day of school for the majority of students across Canada. For most families that means its back to the routine of the early morning scramble to get everyone fed, dressed and out the door, hopefully in that order. With that in mind, we polled 1000 parents of school age children across Canada through our AskingCanadians™ research panel.
What is the most stressful part of your kids going back to school?
35 per cent of parents think that getting their kids back into the habit of doing homework and studying is the most stressful part of going back to school. The challenge of getting their kids up early, dressed, fed and out the door was chosen as the biggest challenge by 23 per cent of parents. Almost 14 per cent of parents were worried about their children’s safety a school. 11.7 per cent of parents felt that could finally relax and take a breath now that their kids were back in class.

Summer doesn’t officially end until September 21, but Labour Day has always been the symbolic end of the carefree days of summer for most people. Summer vacation is over, students are back to school, everyone gets back to work and of course if you’re living in the Toronto area, that means watching things wrap up at the CNE.
How are you spending Labour Day weekend?
We polled 1000 parents of school age children, and asked them, “How are you spending Labour Day?” The majority of parents responding that they were going to be hanging out enjoying the last weekend of summer. 19.2 per cent were spending the weekend getting ready for the school year, while 10 per cent were going to be out shopping for last minute items. We’re jealous that a lucky 8.6 per cent were spending the last long weekend of summer at the cottage. 4.7 per cent of parents were hitting the road this weekend, moving themselves or their child to university.
