Today YouTube launched a new user interface called Leanback. The immediate response around the office was “that’s for TV”. As mentioned in this article from GigaOM, the hope is that YouTube viewers become more passive and stick around for greater than the current 15 minutes of viewing time a day. The interface is slick, easy to use and scalable for the big screens in our living rooms. The question is will you be convinced enough to change your viewing habits and access YouTube through your TV. Google is hoping this is the type of interface that will help push forward Google TV adoption. There is also a drive to make live events and rentals available through Leanback. While the interface is impressive will content ultimately determine the success of Leanback?
