Webcasting rocks!!

This doesn’t exactly relate to a disease, but it really describes how the Digital Customer Experience is changing how we communicate and share knowledge. The City of Toronto just had a summit on Government 2.0 and had a number of experts in the industry coming and sharing their perspective with City Officials.

Steve Mast, Delvinia Interactive’s VP and Managing Director gave a great presentation on how Markham’s Click with Markham initiative continues to demonstrate their forward thinking in the area of public engagement and consultation.

What was incredible was the fact that there were only about 10 people in the audience at the event, but there were well over 300 people watching the webcast of the event. Our entire office was able to watch Steve’s presentation from their desks.

The digital experience was so successful that it turned the summit into a live studio broadcast. I’m sure it must have been rather unnerving for the speakers, expecting that they would be speaking to a full room - rather than a large web audience.

Clearly webcasting is a great way to reach a larger audience base, but clearly, if you are organizing such an event and you want to have a full house, then you really can’t underestimate the power of the digital experience to provide a convenient alternative to showing up at the live presentation. So unless the speakers are that individuals are either paying to see or really want to see in person - be prepared that although you are speaking to a large audience through the web, you may be speaking to an empty room.

Not sure its a disease, but clearly we can probably come up with a name for it.
