As part of our nationwide AskingCanadians™ Canada Day poll, we asked Canadians to vote for Canada’s hottest actors and actresses.
Capturing 32 per cent of the vote, Ontario-born Rachel McAdams was voted as the sexiest Canadian actress. Kim Cattrall from HBO’s Sex and the City came in a close second at 27 per cent. At 19 per cent, third place went Evangeline Lilly, best known for her role as Kate Austin in Lost. Close behind in fourth place was Elisha Cuthbert, who is currently starring in the ABC series Happy Endings. Other notable mentions from our AskingCanadians™ poll go to Pamela Anderson, Carrie-Anne Moss, Ellen Page and Sandra Oh.
Ryan Reynolds, the lead in this summer’s blockbuster action film, Green Lantern, was picked as the sexiest Canadian actor. Reynolds captured 54 per cent of the vote. In second place with 22 per cent, was London, Ontario’s Ryan Gosling, who stars in the upcoming romantic comedy, Crazy, Stupid, Love. The Montreal-born actor, William Shatner came in third with 13 per cent of the vote and in fourth place was Vancouver comedian, Seth Rogan with 3 per cent. Other actors of note included Kiefer Sutherland, Keanu Reeves, Roy Dupuis and Michael J. Fox.
In a nationwide AskingCanadians™ poll conducted from June 20 – 22, we asked Canadians: Who is your favourite Canadian band?
Scarborough’s favourite sons, the Barenaked Ladies came out on top at 37 per cent, garnering twice the percentage of votes as the second-place group, The Tragically Hip, which took 18 per cent. Rush ranked third with 12 per cent of respondents voting for the band. Recent Grammy winners and relative newcomers Arcade Fire finished in fourth spot with 11 per cent. Nickelback and Simple Plan shared fifth place with the legendary Winnipeg band The Guess Who.
Other bands with several mentions included Broken Social Scene, Blue Rodeo, April Wine, BTO, Great Big Sea, Hedley and Our Lady Peace.
As Canada Day approaches, we asked Canadians to weigh in on which dish best represents Canadian cuisine. The top choice? Canadian bacon.
Forty-two per cent of Canadians surveyed in our nationwide AskingCanadians™ poll, conducted from June 20 – 22, chose Canadian bacon as Canada’s signature food.
Poutine placed second at 30 per cent, smoked meat sandwiches ranked third at 10 per cent, beaver tails came in fourth at 7 per cent and Montreal-style bagels rounded out the list at 3 per cent. Other notable dishes mentioned in our poll included tourtière and butter tarts.
